Air Lease Corporation (AL) operates as a leading player in the global aircraft leasing market. It specializes in leasing modern commercial jet aircraft to airlines worldwide, capitalizing on long-term contracts and a relatively young fleet. The company is strategically positioned to benefit from the growth of air travel and the solid demand for aircraft leasing amid ongoing supply-chain constraints in the aerospace industry. Following its recent merger, Air Lease Corporation has been rebranded as Sumisho Air Lease Corporation, with a focus on expanding its operational capabilities and services within the market.

Bull points

  • Airline traffic volumes remain robust globally, rising 9% year-over-year based on the latest IATA report that came out yesterday. Total international volume was up a strong 12%, with all major markets continuing to rise at double-digit or high single-digit percent rates.
  • We believe new city pairs will likely siphon some traffic away from larger hubs, but will also stimulate new demand as well. For example, travelers are very likely to think differently about taking a flight from south of France, say Bordeaux or Nice, to various U.S. East Coast cities if they no longer have to take a long trip by train or car, from the airports to the larger hubs, or make connections, which can be very frustrating.
  • We expect to receive our first A321XLR in the late second quarter of 2025, and we're assuming all else remains equal on Airbus' production capabilities. As a reminder, Airlease is one of Airbus' top A321XLR customers with 49 aircraft on order.

Bear points

  • With delivery delays persisting, There's not much good news from the OEMs.
  • And also remember that we had a large number of aircraft that should have delivered before June 30 that slid into July and August. So that's really an OEM issue and it means we lost revenue on those aircraft that we expected to receive back in April and May.
